I’m passionate about helping people transform their health and restore vitality using a holistic and personalised approach. I prefer to use nutrition and natural therapies because it’s a gentler approach and it gives you the chance to make powerful shifts in your health through simple changes.

Bioidentical Hormones
Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. When you have a hormonal imbalance, you have too much or too little of a certain hormone. Even tiny changes can have serious effects throughout your whole body. Hormone levels fluctuate throughout your lifetime and can decline or become out of balance as you age.
Common symptoms of hormone imbalance include:

  • Feeling more tired than normal
  • Hot flushes
  • Irregular period
  • Mood swings
  • Low energy
  • Sleep problems
  • Low libido
  • Memory problems
  • Acne
  • Hair loss
  • Skin ageing, dryness
  • Aches and pains
  • Loss of strength/ muscle mass

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is the use of bio-identical hormones to replace and rebalance the body’s hormones in men and women, during the changes leading up to menopause, andropause and beyond.

Bio-identical hormones are identical in molecular structure to our own hormones, which allows them to be processed in the body in the same way as our natural hormones. Commonly prescribed bio-identical hormones are Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA and Melatonin. Bio-identical hormones are not only better tolerated; they can also be individually prescribed and fine-tuned according to your needs. In addition to this you will be given some basic nutrition and lifestyle advice to help support your treatment.

Conditions that can be treated with BHRT include

  • PMS
  • Perimenopause
  • Menopause
  • Side effects or problems with conventional HRT
  • Hormonal Acne
  • Male andropause (low testosterone)
  • Skin ageing
  • Hair loss

Skin
In addition to hormone related skin and hair problems mentioned above, Dr Amina can also treat early signs of ageing using:

  • Wrinkle relaxing injections (Botox)
  • Skin rejuvenation with dermal fillers.
  • Personalised prescription skincare.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Early lines and wrinkles
  • Facial volume loss
  • Deep lines and wrinkles
  • Menopausal skin

Functional Medicine
Functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional Medicine doctors spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease.

Most doctors are not adequately trained to assess the underlying causes of complex, chronic disease and to apply strategies such as nutrition, diet, and exercise to both treat and prevent these illnesses in their patients. Functional Medicine involves understanding the origins, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic disease. Functional Medicine integrates traditional Western medical practices with what are sometimes considered “alternative” or “integrative” medicine, creating a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.

Common conditions I treat include (but not limited to):

  • Allergies and food intolerances
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Digestive problems
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Skin disorders
  • Complex hormone disorders
  • Migraine/headache
  • Brain fog
  • Underactive thyroid disorders
  • Neurodegenerative problems

About Me

I qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2006. Before becoming a GP I had a varied career through surgery and aesthetic medicine, working in NHS hospitals around the country and setting up aesthetic clinics across Yorkshire. I qualified as a GP in 2013 and became a partner in a large practice just outside Leeds. It taught me that good healthcare is about so much more than treating a person’s symptoms. Relationships, employment, home life, food, environment, past events, etc all have an influence on current and future health.

I trained with the Institute of Functional Medicine in the US, completing their 5-day introductory course as well as 6 advanced modules (Gut, Immune, Environmental, Cardiometabolic, Hormones, Energy). This led to further training in Bioidentical Hormone Therapy with the Marion Gluck Academy in London. I hold several professional registrations including GMC, Royal College of GPs, Royal College of Surgeons. I am a member of the Institute for Functional Medicine and the Marion Gluck Academy.
