Vicki Crane – Hypnotherapist, Talking Therapist & Supervisor

BA(Hons), D.Hyp, Dip.Thyp, MHS Accred

I’m an experienced Hypnotherapist and Talking Therapist and I combine a variety of psychological therapies including Hypnotherapy, NLP, Counselling and CBT to help you overcome the problems or issues that are holding you back and preventing you from living the life that you want to lead.

About Me
I began my initial training as a Hypnotherapist, gaining Diplomas in Therapeutic Hypnosis and Clinical Hypnotherapy. Following this, I achieved certification as an NLP Practitioner and since then, I have continued to develop my therapy skills with further training in Psychotherapy, Mindfulness and CBT. I am also trained in the Rewind Technique, which is a method for helping people who are experiencing high anxiety conditions such as Phobias, Trauma and PTSD.

As an experienced therapist, I’m an Accredited Member of The National Hypnotherapy Society and an Approved Supervisor, providing supervision for students, newly qualified and experienced Hypnotherapists. In addition to this, I’m an Ambassador for the society, promoting Hypnotherapy within the public and healthcare sectors. I also sit on The National Hypnotherapy Society’s Professional Development and Supervision Committee and play an active role in the development of the society.

I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

How I can help
Many of us know someone who has had therapy to help them deal with a situation which is causing emotional problems, stress or upset. I often see people with a wide range of problems and issues including:

  • Anxiety & Panic Attacks
  • Confidence & Self Esteem
  • Fears & Phobias
  • Public Speaking
  • Stopping Smoking
  • Weight Loss
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Migraines & Tension Headaches
  • Insomnia & Sleep issues
  • …and many more

Therapy Sessions
During your first session, we’ll discuss your situation in more detail, including your past experiences and goals, along with your role in your therapy sessions. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and then we’ll move on to the therapy part of your session. This may involve a bespoke and blended use of therapies such as Hypnotherapy, Counselling and NLP, combined with other talking therapies as appropriate. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach in therapy, because each person’s situation is unique and people often respond differently depending on the type of talking therapy used.

At the end of your session, we’ll talk about what you can do at home before your next appointment. I may give you an audio download to listen to, or ask you to complete other therapy tasks such as keeping a diary or practising self help techniques. These activities are designed to enhance the work done during your sessions and enable you to develop new skills and responses to help you achieve your goal(s).

In future sessions, we’ll talk about your progress since your last session and then continue with your therapy. Your sessions are about working together to help you make the changes that you need to get to where you want to be. It’s a collaborative process which is done with you, not to you. Hypnotherapy, Counselling and other talking therapies have a good track record in helping people to make lasting changes, however your motivation and participation are the real keys to your success, so you need to play your part too.

A lot of times we struggle to keep at bay our emotions which are sometimes nature’s way of leading us to seek our inner peace. These potentials are present in everyone but may be hidden under concerns, worries and emotional situations of life.

A Commitment to Discover Self

Sometimes in life being unexpectedly caught in not knowing how best to resolve the hurtful feelings from past experiences can feel stressful. All of which may hinder anyone from attaining their full capacity even at their best.

Nicola Furbisher

Hello from this little corner of West Yorkshire.

My name is Nicola Furbisher; I am 52 and I am a CPCAB-qualified therapeutic counsellor supporting people who are struggling and in distress. Often, they have things going on in their life that have become overwhelming, maybe too hard to deal with on their own. Often, they feel lost, broken, and can’t find a way through.

I offer a warm welcome, an open heart and time and space to be with them, to walk alongside them for as long or as short a period as they need.

They are the priority; they are in charge. I do not take over; I do not try and tell them what to do.

If you feel you would like to work with me, I promise I will be accepting, open and entirely trustworthy, working with you working at your pace to help you be where you need to be.

I have previously worked with clients suffering from trauma, grief, anxiety and depression, and with those who have suffered mental, physical or sexual abuse. I also help people with low self-esteem, and those who are suffering from work or family-related stress.

Alongside my private work I am a volunteer counsellor at Leeds Mind and at Support after Rape and Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL). I also volunteered at the Mosaic II (now closed), a specialist counselling offering support to adult survivors of sex abuse.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am fully signed up to their ethical framework.

I had a different life before all of the above. Previously I was a journalist for 30 years and, latterly, the Editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post & Managing Editor, Yorkshire Post. I’m a Yorkshire lass, I lived in Brussels, I love being by the sea, but my roots are in landlocked Brighouse.

I had a special boy called Thomas who died in 2008. I battled on, I thought I was fine. I wasn’t. A wonderful counsellor saved me – and in saving me, I found a new path.

I appreciate this is a lot to take in. Please contact me if you think I can help you. I promise warmth, acceptance, and a space for you to be whatever you need to be.

Soula Poku, MA, BA (Hons), MBACP (Accred.)

Soula is an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Her areas of specialization include helping individuals cope with low self –esteem, life transitions and childhood trauma but she also works with individuals who face a variety of challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders, relationship struggles, work difficulties or sexual concerns.

Approach and experience

Soula graduated with a Masters in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Leeds in 2013 and holds a Bachelor’s degree with Honours from Nottingham Trent University in Education. She has worked with clients within the Community Mental Health Services for several years, providing psychotherapy to individuals in the charitable sector. In her clinical work, she engages with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Soula’s approach is heavily rooted in psychodynamic theory, but she considers all aspects of her client’s life including socioeconomic factors, culture, race, gender identity, sex and more. She draws from different approaches and adapts them in order to meet individual client’s needs, as she believes that we are all much more complex beings with our own unique history and experiences, hence why there is not a one-size fits all model of therapy.

Soula offers a free 15 minutes telephone consultation.
Daytime and evening slots offered.

For enquiries or bookings please contact info@towerclinic.co.uk

Fees: £55 per 50 minutes
Face to face, on-line and telephone counselling offered.

Gabrielle hall

BSc in Sociology; CQSW; Dip Applied Social Studies; Post – graduate Certificate in Relationship Therapy

I am a Relate – trained Counsellor working with individuals and couples.

I began my career as a qualified social worker, working as a mental health specialist caseworker and with Child Guidance as a systemic family therapist, before moving to the NHS.

I offer confidential counselling for couples or individuals.

Relationships are complex and it is not surprising that most of us have difficulties at some point along the path. My work is to help you to identify what you want and to achieve your desired goal.

The initial appointment will be an assessment so that both you and I can check if we are comfortable working together.

If you are looking for a counsellor and would like to book an assessment, I would love to hear from you. I work Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evenings.

Gurm Bacchus – Bereavement Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

BA(Hons), MSc., MEd., PG Dip Acupuncture, PG Dip Counselling and Psychotherapy, MA Psychotherapy, MBACP.

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I received my MA in Psychotherapy with distinction for my research study into counsellor’s experiences of working with end-of-life phenomena (death-bed visions, death-bed coincidences, and after-death communication). I am also volunteer bereavement counsellor at the Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds and the Marie Curie Hospice, Bradford.

I work with clients on a range of issues including:

  • Bereavement, grief, and loss.
  • Coping with acute, chronic, or terminal illness.
  • Generalised and health-related anxiety.
  • Stress management.

I have two areas of special interest in counselling:

  • Grief and loss through bereavement and illness. My experience of bereavement counselling suggests that a bereaved person has three questions they are typically looking to resolve:
    • About the person who has died: Where has that person gone and how are they?
    • About their relationship with the person who has died: Will I be with them again?
    • About their own life: How do I continue without them?

Thinking about these issues and how they make us feel can be difficult but doing this within a safe and non-judgemental environment can help guide us towards finding meaning in our suffering.

My online blog has topics relating to grief and loss due to bereavement – please feel free to read and comment on the blog articles at www.griefandloss.co.uk.

  • Working with clients who have had exceptional transformative experiences that do not fit into the usual limits of space and/or time. There are many types and names for these experiences which can be catalysts for exceptional transformation: peak experiences, near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, death-bed visions, nearing death awareness and after-death communication. Integrating these experiences into daily life can be a unique and distinctive process.

I am also a qualified Acupuncturist and have run my own acupuncture clinic since 2005. Through this, I have experience of working with clients’ acute and chronic physical ailments and helping them manage their conditions both physically and emotionally. As part of working with physical and emotional grief and loss, I am a specialist acupuncture volunteer at the Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer, St James’ Hospital, Leeds, where I offer acupuncture treatments to cancer patients and their carers.

How I work

The level of a client’s participation in counselling therapy is important for a positive counselling outcome and this develops through the therapeutic relationship between the client and counsellor.

My approach is therefore based on developing a therapeutic relationship with clients using principles from the Relational and Person-Centred models. The Person-Centred Approach aims to be non-directive and allows clients to lead the agenda during the counselling session.

Overall, I use an integrative counselling approach which allows several models from counselling and psychotherapy to be used whilst allowing me to adapt counselling sessions to meet individual client’s needs. This provides a safe, non-judgemental, confidential, and understanding environment in which clients can explore any difficulties or issues in their life and address any changes they would like to make.

During our lives it is inevitable that we will at some point face difficult challenges and confront major life transitions, such as health issues, financial loss or relationship issues. We may also experience trauma. These uncertain times can be daunting, causing us to feel distressed, helpless and isolated. It may feel there is no choice but to struggle on, and that nobody understands, but talking to a professional at these times can really help us feel less confused and gain back some control in our lives. My aim is to be able to help you in some way. This starts by me listening to your pain, hearing your story and working out a plan for the best treatment available. You will be my focus and the therapeutic relationship we build together will form a powerful tool in our work together.

I am a highly experienced Counselling Practitioner and throughout the span of my career I have met with a range of people who have come to therapy for a variety of reasons:

  • Are trying to make sense of the past, the present or the future
  • Might be wondering if they, or someone they care about, is on the autistic spectrum or has ADHD.
  • Are parents or a couple struggling with parenting their child or managing their own relationship

Whatever you bring, and whoever you are, you are unique and I will help you to have your own counselling experience which will be personal to you, safe and confidential.

I offer face to face, skype or telephone therapy and work with couples, families, children and adolescents (age 5-18) and individuals. This can be short or long term work. Younger children have found it beneficial to talk about their feelings and emotions through play, and in my experience, I have seen positive changes in their self esteem, confidence and self-development, particularly in children who ordinarily find it difficult to express themselves.

My experience and knowledge includes working with, for example, relationship issues, transitions, family difficulties, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, autistic spectrum, ADHD,
grief and loss. My style of working combines psychodynamic, person-centred and systemic therapies and I offer an understanding, supportive yet appropriately challenging approach to my clinical work, thus supporting clients to effect meaningful change and build better relationships.

  • As a Registered Member of BACP, I am bound by their code of ethics and have monthly clinical supervision, regular continued professional development/continued training.
  • I have full professional indemnity insurance.
  • I am approved and registered with DBS (Disclosure Barring Service).
  • I am available for late afternoon and evening sessions at The Tower Clinic. Please contact me for a confidential and informal discussion. I can help you to decide whether therapy might be beneficial at this time.

Therapeutic Approach
Sally is an integrative counsellor which means she incorporates different types of therapies to suit your needs. This may be by using a person-centred approach, which in therapy means the counsellor works to understand how the client sees the world from their own perspective whilst offering a place where they can be fully accepted without judgement. Sally supports her clients to better understand their feelings and facilitates in an environment where they can get in touch with their inner strengths allowing for personal growth to occur, which in turn enables the client to function well. Sally may also offer mindfulness techniques and coping strategies which aids self-awareness and promotes acknowledgement and acceptance of one’s own thoughts, feelings and body sensations. Sally often incorporates a psychodynamic approach into her work which allows the client and counsellor to look into the origins of a client’s behaviour thus creating an environment that can facilitate understanding and change. Counselling with Sally incorporates Relational psychotherapy into her approach. This form of psychotherapy can help clients to recognise how they relate with others and how this impacts on their life experiences by exploring their inner thoughts and feelings and behavioural patterns. What is pre-trial therapy?
Pre-trial is therapy or counselling is offered to a victim or witness while the investigation or criminal justice process is on-going, and a trial may be possible. When you report what happened to the police to the time when all the court proceeding are complete, I can offer a limited style of counselling to ensure that you feel emotionally supported, have someone to talk to and be listened to, whilst not influencing the evidence you would give in court.

How does pre-trial therapy work?
You can talk about what you are thinking and feeling at the moment , for example to your self-esteem or within relationships. You can work on coping strategies for dealing with what happened to you and talk about the impact it has had on you, as long as you don’t talk and discuss the specific memories. You can talk about any worries you have about the police or court process. It a non-judgemental safe space for you.

You

Maybe a recent life event is changing how you are in the world. Maybe a past event needs to be worked on and understood. Maybe you do not feel yourself and are suffering with a change in mood and outlook.

If you are experiencing difficult and overwhelming feelings, we can work through them together. You will have a space to find some understanding and relief from what is happening to you, without being judged.

Family and friends often try and give advice and make us feel better, but sometimes this can make things more confusing, and a more open non-judgemental approach is needed. Counselling and Psychotherapy can offer a different approach.

You can choose from face to face, zoom or telephone counselling. I offer a safe space from where you can feel at ease to express yourself and voice what is troubling you. Together we can work on the process of coping with emotions, thoughts and understanding what is going on for you. Enabling you to live a more satisfying life.

How it works

We sit together and you explain what is happening for you. We will unpick how things are for you, what adds to it and why that might be. We might look at family, past events and make sense of where you are at presently. When you are ready, we will shine a light on the things that seem the most unmanageable and we will face this together, safely. Sometimes people experience reoccurring feelings they do not want and cannot seem to move away from. This is something Psychotherapy can offer relief from.

Friends and family will give advice and try to make you feel better but sometimes this is not enough, and we need a deeper understanding to work through our feelings and thought processes that seem to have become entrenched.

I work with longstanding issues or new life events which occur. My training is in a wide range of areas, and I am therefore able to draw on this to tailor it to you. I do not claim to hold all the answers for your problems, but I can help you to unpick where you are at and help you work toward new perspectives and understanding. If you are experiencing difficult and frightening feelings, you will have a space to explore these with me and find some understanding and relief from what is happening to you. It is not easy, but it does works.

Therapy is a healing process.

About Me

I am made up of many different parts. I am a mum, wife, daughter, friend, therapist, music and mountain lover. I laugh, cry and all the bits in-between! In my life there have been brilliant times but also terribly sad and crushing life events. I am just another human making my own sense of this world and my passion is learning how to do this and ultimately helping others to find their own path.

My Approach

This process is centred around the relationship between you and your therapist. I work relationally and have a range of expertise, so I tailor this to your needs. It is really important you find someone you are comfortable with, and I urge you to contact a few practitioners to see who feels right. Do not hesitate to contact me for an initial 15-minute chat to see if you think we could work together. For successful therapy you need to invest yourself, time and money so it needs to be with the right person. I will adapt my knowledge of modalities and theories and weave them into our interactions enabling you to process what is happening in your life. It will also give you various options so you can choose what works for you.
The sessions are confidential. I work within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework. This binds me to work within the law. Additionally, I am DBS checked and am fully insured.

If you are someone who would like more comprehensive and academic information about my training and approach, please refer to the section below.

Qualifications and Areas of Interest

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. I am an integrative relational therapist and work primarily from a person-centred approach but blend modalities from various fields including the Psychodynamic and Gestalt fields and tailor techniques to each individual.

Having worked in helping roles for over 20 years I draw on a wide range of experience including teaching; as a Director of a community interest group for improving mental health and working with individuals, and groups, around mental wellbeing. I also have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education for secondary pupils and a BA Hons Degree. I have a qualification in Mindfulness (MISP) and use some techniques, if suitable with clients. I can incorporate elements of CBT in my work and TA (Transactional Analysis), where appropriate.

I am especially interested in working with trauma and somatics, exploring how the mind and body respond separately and as a whole.

Below are examples of what issues I work with, but it is not an exhaustive list.
Abuse, Addictions, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement and sudden loss, child related issues, Covid related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Flashbacks, Identity issues, Loss, Menopause and Peri-menopause, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self-esteem, Self-harm, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues

Fees

Each session is 50 minutes, and I charge £50 per session.

I recommend at least 6 sessions. Each individual is different, and I have worked with people for anything between 6 session and for over a year. Some people get what they need quickly. For others it takes longer. Some take a break when feeling they are able to cope again and return when other life events happen, if they need extra support and time for themselves, to process what is happening. Every person is different.

I kindly request our sessions must be paid for in advance, or on the day. Sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance, or you will be responsible for the full session fee.

Feedback I’ve Received

“I felt like I was carrying chains around before I came to see Vicky. They now feel like balloons, still attached to me but lighter and a part of me that does not drag me down”.

“Vicky has helped me through the most horrendous and difficult time of my life, if I hadn’t found Vicky goodness knows where I would be right now”.

“Vicky is a couple of cuts above what I would expect. Vicky has a lot of compassion for others, she has the ability to listen and put others at ease, a natural warmth and friendliness; a strong set of interpersonal skills which help her establish rapport quickly with clients, developing strong therapeutic relationships”.

Beth Hardisty

YBR Counselling – Learn, Heal, Thrive
Hello and a warm welcome to YBR Counselling, my name is Beth and I set up Yellow Brick Road Counselling to help children, young people and adults who are struggling with their mental health.

Being able to communicate what’s on your mind with your loved ones is the first step to looking after your mental health. But sometimes talking about your feelings and needs can feel difficult. That’s when counselling can help. Talking in confidence to someone who is completely impartial, who’s not going to judge can help you see things a lot clearer.

Children and Young People’s Counselling
Like adults, children and young people can find expressing their feelings tough. Counselling can help a child or young person to realise that when we talk about our feelings, our fears, our worries and our frustrations they become less overwhelming, less scary and less upsetting.
I work full time as a school therapist in the Leeds area. I have worked and continue to work in various different primary and secondary schools helping children and young people with their mental health by giving them the tools to enjoy their life more. Self-confidence and self-esteem can begin to grow once a child or young person is able to ‘let go’ of what has been bothering them.

Teenagers in particular go through a lot: school workload, physical changes, the increasing pressure to be socially acceptable. All these can, on occasions, be quite overwhelming for a growing mind and body. They have questions and opinions. They want to say the big things and the little things. They need ears that listen to what matters to them. If it matters to them, it matters to me.

I have worked with a lot of teenagers and have helped them to work through a range of different issues such as anxiety, OCD, low mood, self-harm and suicide ideation to name a few.
I can also see children as young as seven. Young children who struggle to express their emotions often find counselling helps them to identify what emotion they are actually feeling through play and creative tasks as well as talking.

Adult Counselling
Counselling can be a daunting process for anyone. Being warm, respectful and friendly are at the heart of YBR Counselling, offering these core conditions in all sessions allows you to feel that your voice is being heard and that you are no longer alone.

I promise to offer you:
Acceptance
Respect
Dignity
Understanding
Confidentiality
While giving you Responsibility.

In the words of Cheryl Richardson “People start to heal the moment they feel heard.”

Issues I have helped adults with include;
Addiction, Anger, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Self Confidence, Sexual Abuse and Trauma.
A real passion of mine is helping parents connect more with their children, I can help you to understand your child better. We can work through your own childhood experiences and how that might be impacting the current relationship with your child. We can Learn, Heal and Thrive when we delve deeper into our past, we can break generational trauma patterns!

A bit about me:
I began my counselling journey back in 2014 just after my second child was born. I enrolled on the Introductory to Counselling night course and immediately became hooked on all things counselling. I went on to complete the Level 2 and Level 3 in counselling skills which led me onto the Level 4 Diploma in Counselling. As part of the diploma course I had to complete a 100-hour placement which I did at a fantastic charity in Bradford, working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse. While doing my Diploma I started working for Place2Be as a volunteer children’s counsellor and completed my Level 4 in Children’s Counselling. The year after that, having finished my Adult Diploma in Counselling and my Level 4 in Children’s Counselling I completed my Level 5 in Children’s Counselling with Place2Be. I worked in both primary and secondary school settings while completing my Level 5 in Children’s Counselling. After completing this I had a bit of time away from the counselling world (Covid had hit), before getting a full time job as a school therapist in Leeds. A job which I adore.

I am a registered member (MBACP) of the BACP.
I am a member of the BACP Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) division.
I am fully insured and am also registered with the ICO in regards to data protection.
I am fully DBS checked and have completed up to date safeguarding training.
I’m also a dog loving Mum to 2 children who loves travelling and walking. My favourite days are out walking with my family (including my dog Rusty).

Fees
The first session lasts 50 minutes and is £45.00
Any session after that lasts 50 minutes and is £65.00.

Discounted rate of £480 for 8 sessions, if paid in a block booking (Not including the first session).

I would recommend at least 8 sessions of counselling; this gives time for the therapeutic relationship to develop.

Sessions are paid 24 hours prior to the session, via bank transfer.

My fees take into account, room hire, supervision costs, continued professional development, insurance, ICO registration and BACP membership.

The First Session
The first session is an assessment session and will include some information and forms, including the contract and GDPR policy. This is to make sure you are fully aware of how the counselling process works and gives us time to discuss the working contract. The first session is also a time for you to ask any questions you may have.

The first session for a child or young person will include the parent, as it is very important that both parties are on board and are fully aware of how the counselling process works, particularly regarding confidentiality.

Next Steps:
If you would like to know any more information regarding anything (no question is a silly question) please do reach out to me via phone or email. I can talk through any other queries you may have. If you decide to go ahead with counselling, a referral form would be emailed across for you to complete.

Bespoke Therapy (max 24 sessions)
If your difficulties are complex, long term, you’ve tried lots of things before or you struggle with trust we may need to spend some getting to know one another so that we can work out a plan that suits you. I recommend you commit to attending three sessions. This allows us time to see if we make a good team, complete a psychological assessment, and reach an understanding of the difficulties you face and how we might best approach them. From there we can discuss a treatment plan so you can decide if you want to continue our work together. All my therapies are contracted for a specific number of sessions so you will always know how long your therapy will last, what the costs will be and when your treatment will be completed. I believe this helps people to move forward and make the changes they hope for. Bespoke therapies usually last between 16-24 sessions.

Free Consultation
I’d be happy to chat about why you’re considering therapy and if I could help. Please contact me for more information or to arrange a free 20 minute consultation. I work in person or online and will always see you as quickly as I can.

My Training
I have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClin Psy) and an undergraduate degree in psychology (BSc Hons) and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC, PYL29244). I am trained in a wide range of therapies; my preferred approaches include Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Positive Psychology approaches. I use therapies that help with motivation, encourage you to follow your own values and interests, and help you progress towards your goals.

Dr Leigh Jones, Clinical Psychologist

Are you’re looking to tackle one or two problems that are standing in the way of a more fulfilling life? Or would you like to address more deep-seated and widespread difficulties and develop a whole new approach to life? I’m here to support you.

I’ve worked in various roles in health and social care settings since 1995, thus gaining experience of working with adults with a wide range of psychological and emotional problems. As a clinical psychologist, I specialise in working with people who have experienced traumatic events from childhood onwards. Typically, this involves working with people who struggle to manage powerful emotions, develop healthy relationships or maintain a sense of themselves as good and worthwhile individuals.

I place a strong emphasis on the importance of building safe and trusting therapeutic relationships with the people I work with and am experienced at developing relationships with those who struggle to trust others. Within therapy with me, people are likely to experience a genuine sense of being cared for and ‘held’, along with gentle encouragement to recognise unhelpful patterns and work to change them.

My primary approach is Schema Therapy. I’m also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (E.M.D.R) and draw on ideas and techniques from modalities such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (D.B.T.) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (C.F.T.) according to the needs of the person.

Earlier in my career, I spent ten years working as a mental health occupational therapist which provided me with a special insight into the relationship between mental health and day-to-day functioning; I continue to draw on this to enable people to improve their quality of life.

If you are interested in making an enquiry, please complete our online Referral Form.

‘The sessions with Leigh have changed my life, after years of failed therapy I believed I was destined to continue in the cycle of the mental health issues I had suffered all my life but because of Leigh’s patience, understanding, lack of judgment and superb clinical skills I have broken that cycle.

I would recommend Leigh’s therapy sessions to anyone regardless of how hopeless they feel or how many other therapists or therapies they have tried before.’ ‘Faye’, 38

Family Mediation

What is Family Mediation?

Combining compassion and expertise to help you sort out the practical issues of separation and divorce

Helping People find practical solutions that feel fair

Family Mediation is a way of helping you to reach agreements with your ex-partner when you are separating and/or divorcing.

Family mediation is an increasingly popular alternative to asking the court to make decisions about your family – it works by helping you to find practical solutions that feel fair.
Family mediation isn’t about getting back together; it gives you the opportunity to talk directly to each other with the help and guidance of a trained professional to work out the practical issues that matter most to you both arising from your separation.

Family mediation is…

  • Mediation is VOLUNTARY
  • Mediators are IMPARTIAL
  • Mediation is CONFIDENTIAL
  • YOU MAKE THE DECISION
  • It’s focused on your CHILDREN
  • It’s FUTURE focused (it’s not about the PAST)

Family mediation is NOT…

  • Counselling or therapy
  • Marriage guidance
  • A substitute for legal advice
  • An opportunity to impose your view on your former partner

The first step is to attend a meeting with one of our mediators on your own. In this meeting:

  • We will ask you about your personal circumstances
  • Give you some information about how mediation works
  • Explain the alternatives to you
  • Decide between us if mediation is the right way forward for you
  • This is called a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).
  • Mediation then typically takes place over 2-4 sessions, depending on your circumstances. During the sessions, you and your former partner will be asked to explore all of the options available to resolve the issues you have.
  • Mediation is not a substitute for legal advice and you are encouraged to have some independent legal advice to help you consider the options available.
  • Mediation is a confidential process which means you can feel free to discuss and explore all options, safe in the knowledge that if mediation does not work, any discussions cannot be disclosed in court, which may prejudice your case.

What can family mediation help with?

  • Where children are going to live and who with
  • What arrangements should be made for children to spend time with a parent they aren’t living with
  • Communications between parents
  • Handovers and managing things like phone calls, Skype, texts
  • Schooling
  • Holidays and special days (e.g. birthdays)
  • Maintenance payments: who should pay for what, how much and for how long
  • What should happen to the family home, including the mortgage or rental agreement, and what should happen to the contents
  • What should happen to any cars you own
  • What should happen to bank accounts, building society accounts or savings
  • What should happen to pensions
  • Your divorce

Our costs:

MIAM £99 per person (this includes the court forms if required)
(mediation information and assessment meeting)

Mediation session £120 per hour per person (this includes a comprehensive mediation summary)

There is no charge for letters, emails, telephone calls in between sessions, but there is an additional charge to write up an agreement document.

We provide both online and face to face services

Legal Aid is available in some circumstances

Melanie Robinson FMCA

Accredited Family Mediator – bringing compassion and expertise at a difficult time; helping you to sort out the practical issues of separation and divorce.

I am a fully insured member of the Family Mediators’ Association and accredited by the Family Mediation Council in All Issues (Children and Finance and Property).

I have been a Family Magistrate (Chair) in West Yorkshire for ten years. During this time, I have gained a wealth of experience of the family legal system, and I have seen firsthand what works well and what doesn’t. I am a firm believer that if parents can reach an agreement between themselves about their children, it is far more powerful. This has led to becoming qualified as a family mediator as I truly believe in the benefits; it saves time, cost but mostly, is far less stressful; it is future focused and is centred on your children.

My focus is to provide an empathetic and kind service to my clients at what is a difficult and stressful time. However, sometimes plain talking is required in order to move things forward, and if so, I won’t be afraid to shy away from a difficult conversation with you.

Prior to training as a family mediator, I worked in various roles across the Financial Services Industry, specialising in consumer over indebtedness and credit and fraud policy; so I am an expert in dealing with people across society in highly confidential and often emotive and distressing situations. I previously worked in many financial services firms such as HSBC, First Direct, Santander and GE; I have been a non executive director/trustee at PayPlan, Bradford Citizens Advice Bureau and Law Centre, and Registry Trust; all of which give me a wealth of experience to support my clients in financial situations.
