Reflexology & Massage in LeedsAt The Tower Clinic, we offer a wide range of massage therapy treatments, suitable for a wide range of conditions.

What is Holistic Massage Therapy?

With a ‘holistic’ therapeutic massage treatment, you are seen as an individual, taking account of your emotional and mental aspects and lifestyle as much as your physical needs.  The emphasis is on using a range of appropriate massage techniques to help to stimulate the self-healing abilities of the body and to restore the body, mind and spirit to a state of ‘homeostasis’ or balance.  The treatment is performed intuitively, working with what you are bringing into the session on the day and using the appropriate techniques and depth of strokes, rather than performing a given sequence of strokes.

As a remedial treatment, the massage treatment will initially include a 15 minute consultation and assessment to determine the specific issues being presented and to agree an appropriate treatment plan with you.  Treatment involves a wide range of techniques to manipulate and mobilise muscles and other soft tissues. Passive joint mobilisation, stretches and body movement, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and subtle energy work are all incorporated in treatments that are tailored to your individual needs.

Andy Kirk

Born Again Sports Massage Therapy was founded and is run by Andy Kirk, a former professional Rugby League player. Andy retired from the sport in 2009, he enjoyed a successful career spanning over 12 years. He began his career playing for Leeds Rhinos, making his Super League debut for the team in 2001. Since then Andy has gone on to play over 200 games in the Super League and The Championship, for clubs including:

  • Leeds Rhinos
  • Salford City Reds
  • Wakefield Trinity
  • Halifax RLFC
  • Widnes Vikings
  • Featherstone Rovers

Andy has a wealth of experience in the needs of professional athletes, thanks to his long career in Rugby League which is one of the most physically demanding sports.
He is also the author of his own autobiography titled ‘Scandalous Freedom’, published in 2020.

As a youngster Andy had a passion for all sports and began playing Rugby League at the tender age of 6 years old. After excelling at sport during his school years and achieved early success by becoming ‘Yorkshire Champion’ in the track & field event, 800 meters at 14 years of age.

Andy began his professional Rugby League career at Leeds Rhinos in 1998. He signed a professional contract as a 16 year old and went on to make his ‘Super League’ debut in 2001 as an 18 year old. He also represented Great Britain Academy in the same year.

Andy played with a number of Great Britain International stars, such as Iestyn Harris, Keith Senior, Barrie McDermott, Danny Mcquire and Kevin Sinfield as well as Australian Internationals such as Tonnie Carrol and Bradley Clyde.

In 2003 Andy moved on loan to Salford City Reds, where he helped them gain promotion to Super League for the 2004 season. During his time at Salford City Reds they had an extremely successful team, winning the NRC Final and Grand Final in 2003. They had managed to stay up in ‘Super League’ after another successful season in 2004. Andy then went on to play for a number of other professional clubs including, Widnes Vikings, Wakefield Wildcats and Halifax RLFC before retiring from the sport in 2009 at Featherstone Rovers RLFC.

Having gained a wealth of experience in one of the toughest professional sports in the world, Andy went on to study for four ITEC Diplomas in ‘Sports massage’, ‘Holistic’ and ‘Complementary’ therapies.

Having suffered with a variety of injuries during his career, Andy understands the frustration injuries bring, not only for professional athletes but for people from all walks of life.

Andy first came across a great ‘Sports Therapist’ very early on in his career whilst playing at Leeds Rhinos and thank God he did! This was former Great Britain International and former England Rugby League Physio, Tommy Smales. Tommy was the best he had have ever come across! Andy learned a great deal from Tommy including many hands on massage techniques to help treat injuries.

Having had a number of Physiotherapists throughout his Rugby career, Andy became frustrated that many used very little hands-on treatment. He found that Sports Massage was a much more effective way of healing and preventing future injuries. Andy often treated his own injuries himself whenever he possibly could.

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself. There are thousands of nerve endings terminating in the feet. These nerve endings are believed to be connected to all the glands, organs and muscles within the body. It is believed that by applying pressure on specific points (reflexes) on the hands and feet the practitioner can work corresponding structures of the body to encourage holistic healing.

However reflexology is viewed, there can be no doubt that what it does provide is a period of time for relaxation where the client has one to one attention and supportive touch in an empathetic listening environment. Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health for clients.

Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced, and you might feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving. You may also find that other aspects improve too; however, this happens on an individual basis.
