What is a Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health. Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalized nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional. They will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.

What does a Nutritional Therapist do?

Before the first consultation, the practitioner usually provides a health and nutrition questionnaire for the client to complete. An initial consultation typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, and in this time the practitioner asks detailed questions about current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and diet. The practitioner then evaluates individual needs and uses the extensive evidence base for nutritional science to develop a personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme.

Follow up consultations are generally after four weeks in order to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments. Further follow-ups may be required depending on each individual situation.

Elizabeth Cooper

If you are interested in understanding more about your current health situation and using nutrition and lifestyle improvement to help you to feel great then perhaps I can offer my expertise. As a registered Nutritional Therapist I use my knowledge and skills to help you make healthy changes to your life and to continue making these changes with coaching and support. Unlike other nutrition practitioners, Nutritional Therapists work use a functional medicine approach to health, which means we address the underlying causes of disease and the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. It means we can support an individual’s unique expression of health and ensure recommendations for change are focused on their personal needs.
Good nutrition is vital for our health and I am passionate about passing on this message to as many people as possible through workshops, seminars, speaking events, articles, booklets and on a one on one basis.

I have a warm, friendly yet professional approach that puts people at ease, and guides them in a supportive way to make lasting changes to their health. For those who have had chronic conditions for many years, these changes can benefit every area of their lives and give them back the self-esteem that these conditions can often take away.

I am a specialist in fertility, having the amazing experience of helping a number of couples conceive and have healthy pregnancies, many of whom have been trying for a considerable number of years. I also specialise in female hormone balance, gastrointestinal health and chronic pain disorders.

What to expect: Before the consultation I provide a five day food diary and health and nutrition questionnaire for you to complete. The questionnaire asks detailed questions about current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and diet. I then evaluate your individual needs and use the extensive evidence base for nutritional science to develop a personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme, which includes an individualised food plan and recipes, and this will be discussed during the 60 minute consultation

In order to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to your programme, a follow up will take place 4 to 6 weeks after your initial consultation and will last 60 minutes. If required, further follow ups can be arranged, either as a one off or periodically.

About Me: I completed my first degree in Leisure Studies, focusing on Sports Management in 1995, and attained several qualifications in coaching, Health-related Exercise for Children and qualified as a NHS accredited trainer in Self Care, a programme which includes modules in both mental and physical aspects of health.

I then went on to gain a BSc (Hons) degree in Nutritional Health from the University of Greenwich and a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy from the UK College of Nutrition and Health (BCNH), a college renowned for top-quality, evidence-based education, where I became a clinical tutor. I keep my knowledge up to date by attending a regular stream of seminars, workshops and training courses focused on specialist areas at a highly advanced level. These include fertility and nutrition, sports nutrition and Nutrigenomics, the study of nutrition on gene expression.

I am a pro bono nutrition advisor to a weight management programme for adolescents called SHINE Health Academy and am responsible for designing a menu plan for their annual residential that has been a major factor in significant weight losses for all of the young people attending the residential. I have also been involved in several projects that have enabled young people to make significant and quantifiable improvements to their health, and have authored and co-authored a number of children’s health booklets, which are primarily used by public health departments in the United Kingdom. I run nutrition workshops for Touchstone’s Positive Care Programme for people with long-term conditions and Brighter Days Ahead, a group aimed to assist refugees, asylum seekers, migrant workers and their dependants with health promotion and good citizenship.

I speak regularly. Recent examples have included Mamas & Papas Mums to Be events on nutrition for pregnancy, Yorkshire Endometriosis Support Group on nutrition for hormone balance, Care Sheffield Fertility Clinic speaking to the doctors and nurses on fertility and nutrition and Optegra Eye Hospital speaking at a patient evening on ocular health and nutrition. I also speak in corporate environments such as Direct Line, British Gas, Barclays and NHS Leeds demonstrating the links between nutrition and optimum performance.

I am a full member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the national voluntary regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners, which only admits a select number of practitioners who have undergone an accredited programme of education. CNHC’s register has been approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, an organisation accountable to Parliament, who help to protect the public by working with organisations that register and regulate people working in health and social care.

“I just wish Liz had been my first resort and not my last as I would have avoided the last two years of trauma, upset and all too frequent and unsuccessful trips to the doctors.” Ingrid

“I met with Elizabeth in the summer of 2015. I had been having problems with my stomach for months and was getting to the end of my tether. She patiently and knowledgeably advised me to avoid certain foods and planned out a healthy daily diet plus a course of supplements to help heal my gut and build my strength back up. She was also excellent in steering me through NHS tests. I followed her plan for 4 months and my symptoms slowly faded.” Naomi

“The plan and the help which Elizabeth has given me has been invaluable. Not only has the pain in my feet gone and gastrointestinal health improved but I have lost two stone in weight.” Tracy Hitchcock

“Liz listened to me and considered my needs very carefully. She gave me tailored advice and introduced variety to my diet. I appreciate the time she spent to explain to me the philosophy behind her advice. She changed my perception of what healthy eating is. She is up to date with the latest advances in nutrition. She is not only interested in helping people lose weight but also improve their well-being and help them feel and look healthier and more energetic. I followed her advice and lost a significant amount of weight relatively quickly, reducing my body fat while retaining my muscle mass which was my goal. I would highly recommend Liz to anyone looking to lose weight or learn more about eating healthier and feeling better.” SP

“I wanted to thank you so much for everything you have done – the last 12 months have certainly changed my perspective and given me a new self-confidence.” Dev, Bradford

What is Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT)?

Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) is a standalone hybrid therapy that gets rapid and permanent results. Whilst RTT embraces many of the positive aspects of hypnosis and hypnotherapy that are known to produce a transformative effect on clients, it goes beyond positive reinforcement to use an array of specific techniques used under hypnosis to directly access and fix whatever blockages may be held within your subconscious mind. Central to that is the ability to transform many clients in a single session.

The power of an RTT session:

We get down to the root cause of blockages in your life, change the meanings you have given these experiences, and permanently change your programming to re-frame core beliefs, values, habits and emotions that are all held deep in your subconscious mind.

RTT delivers extraordinary, permanent change from physical, emotional and psychological pain. Depending on the issue this can happen in just one two-hour session.

This is the key to RTT; it takes you from a place where something has held power over you and places you back in control of your life. RTT replaces out-dated belief systems and negative patterns of behaviour by re-wiring neural pathways. A bespoke recording based on your session is used to create new life-affirming beliefs by pruning old connections and creating new and better ways of thinking.

Sarah Dransfield
BA(Hons), Cl.Hyp, ARTT / mBANT, CNHC, NCP

Change your mind, change your life.

I specialise in changing minds because I had to change mine.

After being diagnosed with autoimmune conditions aged just 39 I went home with a bag of serious medications and no immediate hope of recovery.

I knew that my prognosis was not one I was ready to accept, but also that I had to make some serious changes in order to get my life back. At that moment I became a Life Architect – creating my own future in my own way.

To do this I chose to study body and mind root causation therapies: with a post-grad in nutritional science taking a functional medicine approach, and then rapid transformation therapy. Both therapies get to the root cause of why things are going wrong.

Not only did RTT change life immeasurably, but also I’m now able to change your life too, which is the greatest privilege of all.

I see all clients who are ready for change, in all areas of live. For example:

  • Freelancers who are looking for confidence, self-esteem, speaking skills, I Am enough…
  • Mental and physical health concerns – chronic illness, skin conditions, anxiety…
  • Fears and phobias – dental, flying, dogs…
  • Addictions – alcohol, cigarettes, gambling…

Are you ready to change? Contact me and we’ll talk it through.

Email me: or call/text/WhatsApp +44 7712 569759.

When you change your mind, you change your life forever.

I’ve been so stunned by how much I didn’t know about myself. I haven’t really, truly known what makes me tick until now. It actually seems so obvious but I just didn’t put all the pieces together before. Thank you so much Sarah for really helping me to become a strong person. I feel lighter, stronger, more able to deal with whatever comes my way. I’m going to recommend you to my friends and family, who I now realise really need a session!Angela, Leeds

I would like to thank you Sarah for transforming my life. The session with you was truly enlightening, meeting my young self opened up so much of who I am and why I behave as I do. Since my session with you I feel a lighter person with a completely different outlook on life. I would recommend you as a therapist to all.Julia, Leeds

I’ve spent most of my life in and out of different therapies and nothing has helped me more than RTT. I actually really loved having hypnosis using Zoom. I had my eyes closed and was in my own little world with this soft and gentle voice in my ears. Sarah was gentle but also really directed me to a massive breakthrough in my life. I feel completely liberated.Terri, New York

I can’t believe how my life is different and I’ve changed! After just one RTT session with Sarah, I have finally released the blocks that were holding me back. I’m a different person and people are noticing this just by looking at me. I must be exuding some new energy! Just amazing.Fran, Leeds
