Why choose Psychosexual Therapy?

Sexual issues can be very distressing and may lead to tensions and issues within the couple relationship. In some cases couples may feel that they are not only less sexual with each other, but also less close and intimate in general. Resentments can arise which may lead to arguments and feelings of low mood and anxiety. For single people, sexual difficulties may lead to a lack of confidence in starting new relationships. Many people find it uncomfortable and embarrassing to talk about their concerns and may feel very isolated and stuck.

There are many reasons why couples and individuals may experience sexual difficulties. These include: physical issues, such as illness, effects of medications and ageing; psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and past sexual trauma; and, social, religious and cultural influences.

Psychosexual therapy can help you to understand more about your sexual difficulty and explore ways of both achieving a fulfilling and enjoyable sex life and enhancing your relationship.

How I work

I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to discuss your concerns and work towards a solution. Your first appointment will be an assessment to find out more about your issue and to discuss your goals for therapy. If you decide that this therapy is right for you, I will then develop a treatment plan which will usually include homework activities, e.g. communication and intimacy exercises. (Please note that no physical examination will be given and you will never be asked to undertake intimate exercises during sessions).

I work integratively, combining different therapeutic tools and approaches, such as cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic and systemic, depending on the needs of each client.

I am experienced in working with individuals and couples from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations and ages.

I work with a variety of sexual issues, including:

  • Loss of sexual desire/mismatched libidos
  • Difficulties in arousal and orgasm
