Dr Kouser Jan Shaik is an experienced psychiatrist with nearly 30 years in mental health. She completed her initial postgraduate training in Psychiatry at a leading tertiary care institution in India, gaining experience across General Adult Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, Neurology, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), family therapy and liaison psychiatry.
After moving to the UK, she continued her specialist training and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She also completed a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Leeds, graduating with merit. She subsequently completed her higher specialist training in two areas and holds dual Certificates of Completion of Training (CCTs) in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry. Since then she has been working in the NHS as a consultant Psychiatrist in an Adult Community Mental Health Team(CMHT).
Outside work, she enjoys reading fiction, gardening, music and long walks.
Clinical Experience and Expertise
- She has over 15 years’ experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS, supporting adults in community mental health services.
- She has a particular clinical interest in neurodevelopmental conditions and is trained in the ADI-R and ADOS assessments for autism and leads Adult Autism Assessments.
- She is experienced in assessing and recommending treatments for anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and Trauma related psychiatric conditions.
- She provides comprehensive assessments and clear, evidence-informed treatment recommendations tailored to each patient’s needs.
