Dr Syed Murtaza Naqvi joins the Tower Clinic!

Dr Naqvi is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, leading an NHS Children and Young People’s Neurodiversity Service. In a career spanning over 20 years he has gained expertise in assessing, diagnosing and treating Mental Health disorders. He trained at some of the most prestigious institutes in UK including the South London and Maudsley hospitals, King’s College Hospital and Bethlem Royal Hospital to name a few. He has worked under direct supervision of some of the most eminent psychiatrist in the UK including Professor Michael Rutter, Professor Janet Treasure, Professor David Veale and Professor Marios Adamou amongst others. He is perhaps among a handful of doctors in the UK with expertise in assessing and managing Neurodevelopmental disorders across the age range from children & adolescents to adults.

A Gold Medallist as an undergraduate, he went on to win several awards. His team was Runner Up at the Royal college of Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Team of the Year (Working Age Adults) awards 2018, and he went on to win the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Specialty Doctor/Associate Specialist of the Year award in 2020.

He has published journal articles about ADHD and contributed to the book ‘Beyond the Diagnosis of ADHD: Multidisciplinary interventions and service provision’ edited by Professor Marios Adamou.

He is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Member of the Institute of Leadership & Management and Member of the Academy of Medical Educators. He is an International Faculty member of the Institute of Psychiatry, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Special Advisor to the Dean of Psychiatry, College of Physician and Surgeons, Pakistan.

His colleagues, service users and carers describe him as kind, gentle, approachable, and friendly. He is passionate about helping young people and adults with Neurodevelopmental disorders achieve their true potential and supporting the families and carers that look after them. He has been a Governor for an Outstanding (Ofsted March 2018) Local Authority primary day special school providing education for 2 – 11 year old pupils with severe or profound learning disabilities for over 5 years and a Trustee – Board of Trustees, Wakefield and District Carers Organisation.

Dr Naqvi is fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Potohari, Siraiki, Bangla and is learning Spanish.
